Spherical glass mosaics

A recent direction: spheres built by hand, one cut tile at a time, on a fiberglass form. Navy and white glass for water and light, with the seams almost disappearing up close. The first of a growing series — tap to see it larger.

Navy and white glass wrap the form in a slow tide-line, each fragment cut small enough to follow the curve. It is the first of a series Enrique has only recently begun — more are taking shape in the studio.

On the process

A sphere can take weeks. The glass is cut small so it will follow the curve, then set so the seams almost disappear. Up close it is hundreds of separate pieces. Step back, and it is simply round, and full of light.
